BIO

Simone Bissotto is a partner in the firm’s Infrastructure and Regulatory department. For over 25 years, she was an executive in the legal department of major companies in the railroad and port sectors, as well as in the cellulose and paper industry. She has extensive experience in port and rail regulation, having actively participated in the endeavors of the industry associations that culminated in the approval of the new Ports Law (Law 12,815/2013), which eliminated barriers to private port investments. She also has a strong background in the regulatory and corporate governance processes of the infrastructure companies where she has worked, being responsible for implementing corporate governance policies and for the relationship with the companies’ Boards of Directors, Supervisory Boards and Shareholders. From 2007 to 2013, she was head of the legal department of a prestigious port logistics company, where her synergistic work with the engineering and sustainability areas enabled the development of important greenfield projects involving ports, transmission lines, real estate development, port channels and environmental projects, including the creation of an RPPN (Private Natural Heritage Reserve) and, above all, the implementation of two important private port terminals in the state of Rio de Janeiro (Porto do Açu and Porto Sudeste). Since 2014, she has been advising on infrastructure projects involving railroads, ports, port terminals and mining companies, with an emphasis on advising on port concessions and private terminals regarding their environmental licensing processes and socio-environmental impacts (National Indigenous People Foundation – FUNAI; National Historic and Artistic Heritage Institute – IPHAN; traditional peoples), ESG and land regularization. From October 2019 to December 2021, she was an independent member of the Board of Directors of Companhia Docas do Ceará (CDC), appointed by the Ministry of Economy.

 RECOMMENDATIONS

  • “I worked with Simone on two occasions. The first as a trainee at Rigesa and the second at Ferronorte/Brasil Ferrovias, where I started my career as a lawyer. Besides being an excellent lawyer, Simone is a great manager. She went through two mergers and managed to integrate and structure the legal team both times, always working in a transparent and fair manner. She has an excellent technical domain, presenting legal solutions focused on the business. Simone stands out as a leader and her management style was essential for my development. The support and confidence she gave me as a member of her team encouraged me to seek my best. To this day, I mirror myself in the example she sets for me, not only as a lawyer but as a manager.”

Cristiane Lopes, General Counsel Latin America at Sun Chemichal

  • “Simone Bissoto played a very important role in the beginning of my career. In the M&A transaction between Brasil Ferrovias and Ferroban, she took over the management of both legal departments and even though she was of the part of the company that acquired Ferroban, she was able to evaluate each member of her team, and I stayed in the company. She is one of the most capable people to lead a legal department of large companies, extremely professional and very transparent in her decisions, transmitting enormous confidence to her team. She is an exceptional tax specialist, and she is very competent in all areas of law”

Fabio Camata, Legal Director at Icann Brasil
